Acquarelli Poi Inchiostro - I (final)

9"x12" Smooth Bristol Board, Acquarelli e Inchiostro Nero
Pari, Grosseto Italia

This photo captures the final stage of Le Due Cecche - III. After building out the basic shapes in Acquarelli Poi Inchiostro - I (step 1), I decided to step out on a limb and use black, instead of seppia ink, to complete the piece. After doing inventory of my art supplies, I realized that I had two vials of Dr. Ph Martin's Hi-Carb Black that needed tending to, so I decided to dip into the black ink.

The resultant piece was not quite what I expected, especially when I compare the lightness and openness of the first step to the structure of the final piece. I was, and still am, especially surprised by how much the ink structure tends to wash out the original color of the roof. Rather than washing out the strokes of paint, the ink actually seems to draw attention to the texture of the brush strokes.

All in all, I was pleased with what I learned, even though in hindsight I would probably stop at the painted form, or possibly experiment with the seppia ink that I have used so often in my previous pieces.
