Auroravita - Poetic Perspectives

venerdì, 24 novembre 2023

After exploring the worlds of philosophy and mathematics (through Classical Geometry), I chose to explore a completely new direction in communication — poetry. At least that is how it might appear to some looking in from the outside. Yet, in all the oddness, there is a definite progression to my books and publications. Rather than a departure, Poetic Perspectives represents the next stage in evolution of my writing.

All throughout my works, I have attempted to find a way to introduce my readers to a different way of experiencing or navigating the world around them. I used the form of dialogue amongst characters to highlight the different ways that individuals might view the world (in an amplified form, of course). Similarly, in Analogical Geometry - Book I I explored the ancient practice of Geometric Construction, allowing for an approach towards mathematics and measurement that was entirely relational in nature, thereby obviating the need for numbers.

Poetry can be viewed as a language unto itself, or at the very least, a different approach towards using language. While prose, at least in its modern form, is often used in a definitive manner, particularly within the purview of science, poetry takes a more descriptive, even indeterminate approach. Due to its indeterminate nature, poetry allows for more ambiguity and requires one to participate with it in its interpretation. Poetry can be interpreted in many ways, by many people, allowing individuals to draw upon their wealth of life experience to breathe meaning into a seemingly simple set of words.

This participatory aspect of poetry intrigued me to no end, along with the possibilities it opened up for describing complexities of the world in a deceptively simple manner. Thus, this book represents another stop along a continuum of exploration, one that has progressed from participatory dialogue, to participatory construction, to participating in poetry.

And upon further reflection, perhaps it is this emphasis upon participation that is most important for me to convey through my many works — regardless of the medium I might employ.

Yours in inspiration,
Michael Weaver
